Every year we welcome hundreds of students from around the round, all completely unique, with their own individual personalities and reasons for choosing to study with us at the Harvest English Institute.
However, there is one thing that they all have in common! All our exchange students are here in the US to learn English as a second language, and that means there are plenty of situations that they all can relate to.
Whether you have been, or are currently, an exchange student studying here with us at one of our Harvest English Institute campuses in New Jersey, Florida, or California, we think you’ll relate to some of our favorite exchange student situations.
-
Your friend group is packed with people from different countries around the world, and your common language is English.
-
When you are at a social gathering and are struggling to keep up with the conversation, you smile – everyone smiles in the same language!
-
At first, you feel out of your comfort zone all the time. Don’t worry, this feeling won’t last forever, and our team at the Harvest English Institute is on hand to offer advice and support when you need it most.
-
You should ask people to repeat what they are saying more than once.
-
You are forever discovering new fabulous foods you have never tried before and can’t get back home.
-
Independence is your middle name! Back home you may have relied on your family to help you out with everything, but studying abroad has taught you how important being independent is and you have never looked back.
-
A quick visit to the grocery store can take hours when you are trying to decipher all those tricky food labels.
-
Planning a Skype catch up with your friends and family back home, always ends with “your time, or mine?”
-
You can fit your entire life into a suitcase… well, sort of!
-
You have grown as a person since you started studying abroad.
We hope you can relate to some of these situations, and maybe they even made you chuckle! We would love to know which of these and other typical exchange student experiences you have had while studying here in the US by commenting below.
