Saying hello to March means one important thing here in the United States… St Patrick’s Day! A holiday that has been widely celebrated across the country since the 18th century, St. Patrick’s Day is a chance to recognize the rich Irish culture here in America.
For those of you who are new to St. Patrick’s Day, this celebration marks the feast day of Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick. Throughout American history, many people from Ireland have immigrated to the US. In fact, there are over 33 million residents here in the US with Irish ancestry.
Across America, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated with parades and parties. Many people dress up in green and adorn themselves with shamrocks, the symbol of Ireland. One tradition in the US is to pinch anyone who is not wearing the color green on St. Patrick’s Day.
Here at the Harvest Institute, we believe that experiencing local events is a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture. To help you out, we have put together a guide to the top St. Patrick’s Day events taking place across all three of our campus home cities.
