The summer is heating up fast and there is plenty of fun in the sun to be had right across the all of our Harvest English Institute home states. You might have friends visiting you in the US this August or maybe you are planning a road trip of your own? Below we have put together our monthly guide to some of the top events for you to enjoy and what’s even better? They are all great opportunities to put all the English you have been learning at our classes to the test!
Newark, New Jersey – Moonlit Movies
Grab your popcorn, a blanket and head on over to Floods Hill in Meadowland Park to enjoy a movie under the stars this summer.
Moonlit Movies are held on Wednesday evenings and this year you have the chance to enjoy Coco, Jumaji and Despicable Me 3!

- Where? Floods Hill, Meadowland Park, South Orange, Essex County
- Price? Free
Long Branch, New Jersey – Ocean Swim
Enjoy a dip in the sea this summer as part of the 14th Annual Ray Licata Memorial Long Branch Ocean Swim. Over 300 swimmers will take part in the one mile swim at Pier Village with hundreds of spectators cheering them on!
Funds raised at the event will go towards safety equipment for the Long Branch beach lifeguards. Prizes will be awarded to all winning swimmers and those wanting to participate can register here.

- Where? Pier Village
- Price? Free to watch, from $20 to participate in the swim and from $10 to participate in the one mile walk-along if you don’t fancy going in the water.
Orlando, Florida – Battle of the Food Trucks
If you are a foodie you need to make the journey to Downtown Longwood this August to sample some of the mouth-watering offerings at Battle of the Food Trucks in Clock Tower Park.
With over 40 trucks in attendance, bring your friends along to enjoy some live music and tasty treats from pizza to lobster and maybe even an ice cream!

Los Angeles, California – US Open of Surfing
Whether you enjoy surfing yourself or just fancy going along to see what all the fuss is about, you have to attend the final day of America’s largest pro surfing competition this summer at Huntington Beach.
With over 200,000 pro surfers travelling from all around the globe to participate, you will have the opportunity to see their impressive skills whilst enjoying live music and entertainment.
