Most of us perceive school field trips as a fun day out with our classmates, away from the academic routine. And as a matter of fact, they are, but they also have wonderful educational value for everyone involved. Here at Harvest, we believe in the power of an interactive and inclusive teaching method. So, whenever we get the chance, we take our students out of the classroom and encourage them to practice their language skills!
What Harvest School Field Trips Are All About
Our students follow a structured academic schedule four days a week. They train in writing, speaking, reading, and comprehension. By taking them on fun field trips, we encourage them to interact with people outside the classroom and expose them to new vocabulary, traditions, conversation topics, and unique experiences in general.
Harvest teachers work hard to plan these outings so they are relevant to what students are practicing in the classroom. In the past, we’ve been to natural parks, city tours, museums, ice skating rinks, restaurants, and many other places. Feel free to browse our Youtube channel and check out all the previous fun we’ve had. It’s always a bonding experience and students learn to work as a team, approach new people with confidence, and ask questions beyond their usual book lessons.
Our Trip to Leu Gardens
Want to check out one of our school field trips? Ms. T, one of our teachers from the Harvest Orlando Campus, took her students to Leu Gardens and by the looks of it, they had a blast!
Leu Gardens is 10 minutes away from Downtown Orlando. The place is filled with all kinds of plants and detailed information about each one of them. Our students had a great time learning about nature, practicing their reading skills, and exploring new vocabulary.
Field Trip Student Homework: Inspiring Their First Written Composition!
After their trip, Ms. T asked them to write about their experience and the results were great! We want to share their homework with you! Keep in mind, Daniela and Eliana were level one students at the time, so they were only starting to develop their language skills. This unforgettable field trip inspired them to write their first composition! Take a look!
Daniela’s homework transcript:
On April 27th we went to visit the Leu Gardens Museum in Orlando, Florida.
The Entrance was ten dollars, but will was on fifteen people, we paid only eight dollars per person. The visit was very funny and important for us students.
There was a lot of beautiful flowers, trees, fake dinosours, a lake, vegetable plantings on Garden House.
Many people visit this place. We saw kids and families. We took a bunch of pictures.
The thing that I most liked was the contact with the environment.
A school trip is always important for our learning.
I would like to thank Harvest English Institute and Ms. T for this special day.
